NIGHT GUARDS

The two main reasons people wear night guards are: Bruxism (teeth grinding); and/or clenching of the jaw. Bruxism occurs primarily while sleeping however, some people catch themselves clenching during everyday tasks such as driving, working or exercising. Bruxism may be a response to stress, worn teeth or teeth that are not in proper alignment (malocclusion).
The symptoms of bruxism include:
  • Jaw pain, earaches or headaches
  • Fractured or chipped teeth or fillings
  • Damage to bone that surrounds teeth
  • Damage to the jaw joint
  • Tooth sensitivity as the enamel layer is worn down
One of the most effective ways to control teeth grinding is by wearing a night guard. There are many different types and styles of nightguards – an assessment of your grinding and clenching patterns can help determine the right guard for you.

SPORT GUARDS

A mouth guard, also known as a sports guard or athletic mouth protector, is a crucial piece of equipment for any child participating in potentially injurious recreational or sporting activities. Fitting snugly over the upper teeth, mouth guards protect the entire oral region from traumatic injury, preserving both the esthetic appearance and the health of the smile.
